"Sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam, and feed upon strawberries, sugar and cream."
That sounds kinda nice right about now. We're going to have to do it indoors, though. Because it's hot, hot, hot out there! I know we're not the only area having record heat (and no rain) for weeks now. Even a drop down to 90 would be refreshing:)
The little poem is from a traditional nursery rhyme called Curlylocks. The whole poem is:
Curlylocks, Curlylocks, wilt thou be mine?
Thou shalt not wash dishes, nor yet feed the swine;
But sit on a cushion, and sew a fine seam,
And feed upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.
Every time I read this though, I tend to think of hand sewing instead of embroidery or cross stitch. Hand sewing a fine seam - that's the picture I see in my head. I'm sure you've heard the saying that hand sewing is slower by the minute, but faster by the mile.
I've really found that to be true, especially when I'm working on hand applique. I finally finished my little four block applique quilt earlier this year. But the applique part was finished in no time last year.
It just took me forever to get it sandwiched and ready for hand quilting. I took my sweet time quilting it, and I did the heaviest hand quilting I've ever done on that little quilt. It's now proudly hanging in my studio:)

I love quiet colors, gentle stitches and making things by hand.
